BlueSky Ministries FAQ

We have questions asked all the time… here are the most common questions we get asked. Feel free to email us your questions if they are not here.

(1) Where did the BlueSky Ministries idea come from?

Michael Tremain, our president, had a vision while sitting on the side of a mountain in Telluride, Colorado. It wasn't a vision like Moses' burning bush, but a vision for a new way to do ministry. Michael had been an Imagineer at Disney and spent most of his time pushing the team to pioneer and innovate new things. He couldn’t help contrast that to the world of the church where innovation is usually the last thing to come along due to the demands of day-to-day ministry.

It hasn’t always been this way. Up until a few hundred years ago, the church led the culture by shaping science, education and medicine. The Gospel is timeless and never needs innovating, but the way that we present the Gospel and live it out demands fresh approaches in our modern world.

So Michael had the idea, why not bring the same level of professionalism and passion that organizations like Disney put into the latest new effort, to assisting the church in fulfilling the Great Commission. JoePix was a natural first place to start since Michael had proven this strategy worked well in corporate America. Why not retrofit JoePix for ministry? Soon after Davies Owens joined Michael and BlueSky Ministries emerged!

(2) What other ministries are you developing besides JoePix?

This is a hard question to answer because as soon as we start talking about the next idea called Blessing Tree… oops!… we get ahead of ourselves. We have about three other ideas that we are confident will be on scale with JoePix, if not bigger, that are just waiting to roll out. What’s stopping us? It has to do with simply having enough human, financial and technical bandwidth to devote the time needed. We also want to stay focused on JoePix until it is at a point where it has a team of people who just run it. That’s not to say we aren’t working away on these new projects. Stay in touch… we promise this next one is going to spread like wildfire!

(3) How do you raise your money?

In our first year of operation we were blessed with a generous foundation grant from the Maclellan Foundation. Beginning in year two, we moved to a model where all of our staff raise their own support. Our day to day operational cost are intentionally at a minimum. We strive to be a highly effective ministry that cuts back wherever possible on the things that traditionally burden a ministry, like large offices and infrastructure.

All of our JoePix projects are based on the hard cost to do the event, plus a small margin that gives us the needed dollars to cover operational costs and serving the people who visit our sites. This ultimately means that a donor can be confident that money given is not tied up paying for our light bill, but is focused on expanding our ministries. Donors can also underwrite specific new tools. For instance, we would love to take JoePix into other language groups. It’s not complicated to rework our site in Spanish. A donor who has a heart for reaching a specific people group can help underwrite this cost… not to mention they can join us in the field. Read more about supporting by clicking here.

(4) How can I get involved?

We welcome your involvement. There are countless ways to get involved… become a JoePix photographer… pray for our ministry… help us research and write new materials on innovation… support us financially… for some of you God may be calling you to join our team or be a "runner" in the field managing a JoePix event… Contact us to find out more.
